Tanah Lot Temple & Market

Description

Tanah Lot is a 15th century sea temple that sits on a rock off the southwester coast of Bali, and is an important architectural piece of Balinese mythology and Hindu spirituality. It is one of seven similar temples, each within sight of its neighbor, forming a chain along the shoreline. Story has it that venomous sea snakes guard the temples from the base of the rock, keeping intruders and malevolent spirits from entering.

There is a market close to the temple that offers locally handmade crafts and arts, and authentic Balinese wares. Be sure to schedule extra time to browse as the prices are very good and can be negotiated.
